Day 121 10.07.18 9 Miles / 14.5km Waking up in our Dunsmuir hotel at 6:30am we make coffee, have our breakfast and finish packing our bags. Jack Rabbit gave us a lift to the trailhead and we were off walking North again. Met with an immediately uphill trail the nerve pain down my right leg …

Days 110 – 120 Mammoth to Bishop (SOBO)

by on July 16, 2018July 16, 20187 Comments on Days 110 – 120 Mammoth to Bishop (SOBO)

Day 110 29.06.18 3 Miles / 5km The day started with delux bagels made by Four Eyes, followed by multiple buses and a shuttle getting us to the Devils Post Pile which is a short detour from the PCT. The unique rock formation is a result of basaltic layers cooling and shrinking into hexagonal columns …

Days 99 – 109 South Lake Tahoe to Mammoth (SOBO)

by on July 9, 2018July 9, 20184 Comments on Days 99 – 109 South Lake Tahoe to Mammoth (SOBO)

Day 99 18.06.18 14 Miles / 23km Trying out my new shoe insoles bought in South Lake Tahoe I immediately feel an improvement. My first few steps for the morning didn’t hurt, especially surprising considering the weight of my bag. My next few miles didn’t hurt either, now feeling support under my arches with each …

Day 89 08.06.18 25 Miles / 40km We woke up early to cover some of the distance from our short day prior. I enjoyed a stunning sunrise at 5:30am while I ate some of Four Eyes homemade porridge mix. It was incredible and I’m now wanting to make my own in our next town. We …

Day 81 31.05.18 14.5 Miles / 23km Waking up early at the Barney Falls Guest Ranch I use the Port-a-loo, have a shower and put our combined load of laundry onto to wash. I’m amazed how good it feels to do such normal things. I then went inside and treated myself to hot oatmeal using …

Days 75 – 80 Dunsmuir to Burney (SOBO)

by on May 31, 2018May 31, 20181 Comment on Days 75 – 80 Dunsmuir to Burney (SOBO)

Day 75 – 25.05.18 It’s moving day! The boys hired the van and we hauled 11 people’s belongings and selves into the back. I said goodbye to Ray and Kyle, then took off with Gandalf, Four Eyes and our 8 new friends. The first stop was Vons Supermarket to shop for resupplies. Four Eyes and …

Days 60 – 65 Still in Kennedy Meadows

by on May 17, 2018May 17, 20184 Comments on Days 60 – 65 Still in Kennedy Meadows

Day 60 10.05.18 Making the most of a day in town I decide to explore the shops close to Bishop Hostel. The hostel has loaner bikes which hikers can use to go to the grocery store, but I decided to go on foot to explore the many sporting and outfitter (camping) stores. My sunnies died …

by on May 12, 2018May 12, 20187 Comments on Day 51 – 58 USA Road Trip!

Day 51 01.05.18 Every now and then I have one of those “Dam, I’m really doing this” moments. Today was one of them. Pinch me, I’m sitting here in a tiny pub in Kennedy Meadows surrounded by hikers and mountains. We’ve all walked here from Mexico over the last 7 weeks, and we’re only just …

Day 43 – 50 Tehachapi to Kennedy Meadows

Day 43 23.04.18 17 Miles / 27km After spending longer than planned at the post office we eventually hit the trail at 10am, sad to be saying goodbye to Brenda who we were now attached too. As usual after rest days the nerve pain returned to my right leg for the first hour of our …

  • I got tik tok 🙃 But thought I’d share this here since it’s probably time I properly introduced myself again anyway. I’m Heather, lover of the outdoors, crochet and adventure. I’ve lived in my self converted van for the last 1.5years and am here to share all the good stuff I enjoy. Nice to meet you!

  • 2021 was a rough one, but not without its highlights. Again I’m reminded that life is about sharing time with friends, seeking out quality experiences, challenging yourself and that your glow is brighter when you’ve been having too much fun to shower for a while. Here’s to more random public toilet selfies, time by the ocean, creativity, exploring and continuing on this adventure called life. ☀️
  • Feeling more and more relaxed, settled and myself with each day out of lockdown and living in the van again. Despite the desperate need for a shower and load of laundry, I’m still so at peace with this life I built, it’s nice to be back. ✌🏼
  • Larapinta trail memories from back in May, my last trip before lockdown. 14days of hiking in the desert with no shower, and still smiling 😄
  • 2 weeks until I can go back to living like this again.

3months of lockdown has been rough. I’m hoping the healing process will be shorter than the lockdown that caused the damage.

It’s so hard to put everything I’ve learnt into words. There’s been big lessons in privilege, hardship, letting go of control, empathy, forgiveness and patience. I’ve tried so hard to handle this with grace knowing my position is still better than many, and that I’ve had so many people help through this period. But it’s been a long time of patiently waiting to return to my life which is currently unrecognisable from pre-lockdown.

I am a coiled spring at the moment, triggered by even the simplest of changes that are outside my control, jealous of those who are in lockdown in a seaside location, struggling to see anything past my own situation, and then guilty for feeling that way.

I’m sending love to everyone who’s had a hard time. We’re all gonna need a giant hug after this. Especially my Melbourne friends. X

  • Entering week 6 of lockdown today and dreaming of last summer. Get me back in the van and by the ocean please 🙏🏼
  • Razorback Ridge blowing minds on the daily 🤯⛰
I’m feeling so grateful to have had the chance to stretch my legs out there on the Larapinta Trail before the next Sydney Lockdown.
  • So much colour, so pretty. Spencer Gorge was 5km of scrambling up a dry river bed that felt more like canyoning than hiking. What a way to change up the scenery and appreciate the flats.

  • Counts Point: one of my favourite days of hiking on the Larapinta Trail. The day before was Serpentine Gorge where I crossed paths with some hugely influential people. We spent the afternoon in deep conversation talking about life’s journey… a conversation that shaped my way of thinking for the rest of the hike. It was a highly sacred and energetic place. I cried often, for no reason at all. I laughed, I danced in the wind. I felt like I was exactly where I was supposed to be at the time. This trail was special on a really deep level. It’s been weeks and I’m still processing it, I’ve never *felt* a trail like this before. ❤️

  • I finished the Larapinta Trail! And to celebrate here’s the dancing video I know you’ve all been waiting for 😉
  • This morning climbing out of Serpentine Gorge 😍
